Two visitors at George's Place

28th April, 2019

Dear friends,

On Easter Monday, we were delighted that Sue Harper’s son Stuart (from Jesus Church) and his colleague Liam visited Homes of Promise. They had been travelling for work purposes and were only in Uganda a few days. They arrived early in the morning and after welcoming them we all walked to the football ground for the boys to run off some energy playing football. Stuart and Liam then stayed for lunch at George’s Place before they left to catch up with work. A short visit but we were so pleased that they made time to see us.

Jesus himself stood among them and said to them ‘Peace be with you’. Luke 24 v36.

In the afternoon we took the boys to Freedom City, which was very busy, the boys enjoyed swimming, climbing, large trampolines, and the live entertainment in the evening. We had a phone call from Julius our security guard to say that Samuel had returned with cassava and avocados. Samuel left us about a year ago having finished his vocational training in hairdressing. He has been living with his grandparents in the village recently and not been using his training but he was clean and tidy and has stayed with us the last few days whilst we find out exactly why he has returned. On Wednesday afternoon big Shaffick, who we had seen at the International Day for Street Connected Children also knocked on the gate, he left us last September having gone back to the streets. He apologised, asked our forgiveness and wanted to stay, he looked so dejected and miserable – of course he is also back with us. So a very full house – the boys at school broke up on Wednesday afternoon – they will collect their reports next Friday.

Bob and I managed to visit Patrick this week who is back with his family and seems well settled. His internship with a local welding business didn’t work out but he is hoping to find somewhere else to finish his training.

Paul – back from Meeting Point is working in a local business for the holidays to improve his sewing skills. (Bob found him employment where we bought our curtains/bed sheets etc.)

Bob also took Najib to Maranatha School for him to take tests to ascertain which class he will be in next term, he did well and should go into P5, but we still need to find his family, Peace has already seen the Probation and police.

This week we managed to fit in a full staff meeting to talk about various issues mainly concerning the older boys.

Friday afternoon we walked to Jahazi Pier for some exercise and to generally enjoy the environment, and of course Saturday we were back at KK Beach.

So life in George’s Place is very noisy and overcrowded at present. Prayers please as the staff are all under pressure with such a large family of boys!

Love and prayers
