Dear friends,
There was heavy rain on Monday morning in Kampala when Shadrach went for the weekly shopping, he also had a flat tyre, so he wasn’t too happy! There were a couple of Public Holidays this last week in Uganda, with the swearing-in ceremony of the President on Wednesday and Ascension Day and Eid-al-Fitr on Thursday, the boys had meat and sodas to celebrate.
Shaffick has returned to college for his hairdressing course. We have to buy all the things he needs, from shampoo, braids, conditioner, curlers etc., as well as supplies of drinks, biscuits and bread for him. They go back heavily laden!
Dennis called in from boarding school on Monday as he was unwell and had to been taken to the clinic for treatment, he returned to school as he has exams, I just hope it wasn’t anything catching.
“While he was blessing them, he withdrew from them and was carried up into heaven. And they worshipped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, and they were continually in the temple blessing God.” Luke 24 v51-53
Peace and Shadrach took Charles on Friday to start a course at Connect Africa. We are giving him a couple of months trial period there as he isn’t sure what sort of training he would like to undertake – he will be allowed to choose from the courses they have available. Lynn the American lady who runs the organisation has been extremely helpful in the past in looking after our boys. Haruna started there on a metalwork course in January 2020 but obviously, this was stopped due to the pandemic and he only resumed his course a couple of months ago. He seems to have settled well and your prayers please for Charles that he too settles and finds a skill. They have extensive grounds for football which Haruna was enjoying when they arrived. He is also involved in using the skills he is learning, under supervision, in the building of metal door and window frames as they extend their premises. Connect Africa is outside Kampala to the north and easier to get to than some of the other vocational centres.
I have had a few phone calls this week from Asaph, I am not sure whose phone he is using – it could be Julius’s, one of our staff members. Also in the photos is Anton so he obviously hasn’t returned to the village yet, he is probably enjoying a week’s home cooking! I did have an opportunity of speaking with Petra, Shadrach and Sam on Saturday morning and with Saviour and Victor before the WiFi connection was lost.
Tresor visited George’s Place Saturday afternoon and is staying the night. He took some of the younger boys for a walk to Munyonyo but they are still not allowed in the grounds because of restrictions so they went to watch a local football match which they enjoyed, he has bought them some DVD’s so they are busy watching movies this evening. Tresor will really be missed when he goes to Canada to study.
Next weekend I am going away for a few days to the Lake District with no WiFi connections therefore think it will be impossible to be sending out a newsletter. On Tuesday I am having vaccinations for cholera, typhoid and meningitis as they have expired over the last year and I need to be fully covered for my return to Uganda.
Many thanks for all the donations of knitted baby/toddler clothes, pens, pencils, toothbrushes that are still flowing in, these will be sent off shortly.
