Sunday 15th June 2025

Dear friends,

Petra has sent a photo of her new baby with his older sister, Myles and Myra (who is obviously enjoying being a big sister).

Last Monday was a bank holiday, I collected Peace from the office and drove to Garuga to see the boys. I had found some wool in a shop on Saturday and some of the boys and Peace learnt how to knit. Tresor had cleaned out the store, with help, and found a box with 30+ pairs of knitting needles, sometimes things get lost in the store, I knew we had some somewhere! He also found some games and jigsaws that the boys enjoyed. They had been busy in the morning doing general cleaning and I treated them to a swim at Sky Beach later in the afternoon when we left.

On Tuesday we were in the office and had a visit by a man, who had called at George’s Place and been sent to us by Patrick, our security guard. He had recently been widowed, has two small girls, his wife’s relatives had forced him to leave his home, near George’s Place, his wife had been Ugandan but he was from Rwanda. Peace counselled him as he was very distraught, he wanted to go back to Rwanda to be with his mother and relatives. After praying with him we gave him the transport money and that night he took his girls back to Kigali on the overnight bus – he phoned Tresor the next morning to let us know he had arrived safely and thanked us for the support. He has sent us photos. Life here can be difficult, there are so many sad stories and refugees as well as locals are struggling. Four young lads have been killed this week, near the office, carrying a tent which touched a live electricity wire.

“The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.” ‭‭Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭16‬

I have had calls this week from Augustine (who is coming soon), Patrick who has arrived to get his new teeth fitted, Dennis, Tim and Emma. All are well. I also saw Big Brian riding his boda – he waved as he passed.

Plans are underway for a camp at the sailing club when the boys breakup from school at the end of August. I know Peace will be panicking if they are going sailing. It’s a beautiful spot and not far from the Scout Camp Site with all their amenities. Ian, Tresor and I are busy sorting out the logistics of tents, food, activities etc. (Tresor’s wedding is the beginning of August so we need to be organised!)

Saturday I visited the boys, the bikes are thankfully fixed. Denis has been having lessons from a local lady on how to use the sewing machine. He is very gifted at handicraft activities, sewing etc. sadly school has left him feeling inadequate especially as his close friend is Saidi who is usually top of the class and always telling us how intelligent he is! Hopefully this will help Denis to have more self confidence. Prayers please 🙏.

On Friday we had a training day at George’s Place, for Benard, by a lady from the Ministry of Gender – she also invited two nuns, from a nearby children’s home to join the training and told them at the end of the day that if they have problems to call in to GP for help from Benard – who now seems proficient at submitting the boys’ information to the Ministry.

Thank you for all your love, kindness and support.

Love Jane x
