Monday was Liberation Day and another bank holiday in Uganda. In the afternoon, I visited the boys and sat in the garden as the older ones came one by one to talk to me. I find if I sit myself quietly in the shade they will come and talk about anything that is concerning them. Moses and Bethel sat nearby as they wanted to look at the photos on my iPad and play games! Denis played Ludo with Patrick. It was a pleasant time and I also had an opportunity to catch up with Benard and find out what had been happening. Brian borrowed my phone to talk with his mum and we agreed that he should visit her as she is unwell and stays in Kampala, so he went the next day.
Tuesday morning I joined our ladies fellowship and there were two other new members, a young mum from the U.S. and a lady from Germany who is married to a Ugandan and has been here a long time. Judith, the lady my age (though she’s not 78 until June and likes to mention that she’s not the eldest!), bought us each two small kivuuvu bananas that you peel, slice and fry in butter – I had them for my tea, they were delicious. I then went to work. Peace wasn’t in as she was unwell.
“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”
Colossians 3:17
Wednesday morning, I collected Victor from a nearby service station as he wanted to come and see us (Peace, Petra and I). At noon the lady (Olive) who is on an internship from Makere University and has been sent to us from Wakisa District arrived and took everyone, apart from me, to George’s Place, I stayed and worked! Olive had been instructed to speak with the older boys, the Warden and Peace – I hope it went well! This week the home has been fumigated as we had been invaded by bed bugs – it always happens when the older boys return from boarding. The young boys have been sleeping outside in the tents for two nights which they have thoroughly enjoyed – camping at home! Everything has been sprayed even the furniture so hopefully we will be free from infestation for a few weeks.
I have been feeling dizzy recently and made an appointment to see the doctor on Thursday I had wrongly assumed it was low blood pressure but after tests I have been told I have an inner ear infection, I really shouldn’t self diagnose!
Today, Friday I’m seeing Chantal ( I haven’t seen her for months, she’s from Burundi and works for the UN with refugees. It will be good to catch up. She came at 2pm and left at 7.30pm, we shared a pizza, UN funding has been cut and things are very difficult, with very little help for refugees even in the camps, 🙏 prayers please for their work.
Elisha is seeing the boys today for dancing and Ian and I are going to see them Saturday, and take them swimming. Sula is coming for the day as well, he seems to be doing well at the hairdressing salon.
This week I’ve heard from Anton, Ivan, Augustine, Sula, Kasita, Tim, Griffin and seen Ziwa who has travelled to Masaka for a family reunion following his grandmother’s passing last year, also Emma and of course Saviour who I see regularly, sadly his aunt has died and he visited his mum on Friday. I am very encouraged to see and hear from the older boys who are mostly working and doing well. The younger ones who are visiting relatives will start coming back next week.
Thank you for all your interest in our work and for your love and prayers.
