Boys back from school/college, visiting Dennis in Gulu, some of the boys visit Tresor and Soleil

Sunday 24th August 2025

Good morning friends,

Last Sunday I took Suzy to meet the boys at George’s Place, Kodet remembered her visiting about three years ago. I then dropped her at a hotel as she was leaving Uganda the following day. It took me about 2 hours to get home as the rain was torrential and roads were flooded!

This week Peace and I, Jessie driving travelled to Gulu to visit Dennis and meet his father. It felt a long way with heavy traffic getting out of Kampala and through Matugga and Luweero. We found a reasonable place to stay and met up with Dennis Tuesday evening for supper. He is fine and is working in a petrol station, his father has given him land not far from the centre of the town and built him a room where he stays.

The following morning we travelled deep into the village and met up with Dennis’ father and ‘new’ stepmother. We appreciated the way he has helped Dennis to settle. Dennis has told us he wants to start a business and he would then go to university when he has worked and saved enough money to support this. Lots of people do this here. I have told him to write a business plan and given him three months – we would then consider how we can help. He is a bright young man, ambitious and focused on succeeding. Your prayers please for him. We later saw his room and the land he has where he could be growing some food. It was a helpful time.

“I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.’”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭91‬:‭2‬ ‭

Later in the afternoon we visited the project of an Ugandan man who works for the L.B. of Enfield – I met him a few years ago, he wanted to help people in his home area. He started to build a vocational college outside Gulu for nursing and dentistry training (there are six acres) but unfortunately because of lack of funds and covid this has not been finished. We met up with his nephew and brother who showed us around. Peace suggested they start using the building as a primary school to make use of it!

All the boys have returned home from school/college apart from Kasita who is visiting his family in Mukono. Tresor called at George’s Place one afternoon and took the younger boys with Kodet and Yusuf to visit him and Soleil at their new home, near Sky Beach, which was a real treat. Raymond asked if he could pray for them before they left. Young Denis had a sewing lesson so wasn’t able to go.

Yusuf is back from his father’s funeral. I went to George’s Place on Saturday and it was good to catch up with the older boys and see the school/college reports. Saviour told me that he saw Joseph (plumber) in the church he attends last Sunday and that he was working and doing well. Victor has a cold and didn’t look well. It was busy in the home with boys riding bikes around the compound, playing ludo, watching TV and chatting. Sadly Steven our deputy warden is unable to work because of family issues. Benard and I later took the younger boys swimming.

Tresor also met up with Ian regarding next week’s camp to sort out final arrangements and I’ve put together all the craft requirements.

All is well but the weather has been wet and cool – even in Gulu which is usually very hot!

Looking forward to meeting up with some of you shortly. Thank you for your on going love and support.

Love Jane x
