It’s Friday morning and I’m sitting in the garden below my apartment, by the pool and enjoying my day off. I’ll take a walk later to Yellow Haven! Peace has been off on holiday all week and Petra and I have been working, mostly in the office.
On Monday morning I met Ian for a breakfast meeting as we hadn’t actually chatted since I’ve been back. He was very pleased how things had progressed whilst I was away.
On Wednesday Petra and I went up to Garuga to Little Angels Primary school. We now have 14 boys there and we wanted to negotiate the fees, we were kindly given a reduction! I also wanted to raise the issue of corporal punishment as some of the teachers do not comply with Ugandan Law which prohibits it! The deputy head said she had been at a meeting earlier in the week run by Wakiso District and this has been discussed in detail, she had advised her staff that if parents complained and the police were involved the school would not support them. It’s amazing how many schools here beat children and think it’s fine!

Musumba was back home complaining of stomach pains and had had a few days off on medication. I think he is anxious about his exams, we sat and talked and prayed with him and he’s now back at school. He and Kasita sit their ‘0’ levels from 8th October, prayers please for them – I believe they are taking 9/10 subjects each. All very stressful!
This week I contacted Jenga in Mbale who have contact and are supporting some of Moses family. The sister and her child have returned to the village as she finished her vocational training but the mother and younger brother are still in their home. Jenga support the younger brother in school. The mother is on medication for TB. We are thinking of taking Moses to see his mother as he has had no contact since the difficult time we had in June 2025 when she was attacking him in my car! I will be in contact with the Jenga team when we have worked out a time to visit. Moses has been asking about his family so it will be good to let him know how and where they are when I see him tomorrow.
We’ve had a considerable amount of rain this week which cools things down but of course the sun shines most of the time. I visited Yellow Haven but got caught in a thunderstorm on my way home!
The young boys have all had new sandals this week and everyone is settling back in school. Tresor, Stephen and I took the boys swimming this afternoon at Banana Village. It’s Benard’s weekend off and Stephen our deputy warden was there – he had been showing them a game to play, in the morning, changing one letter in a word to make another word, which they enjoyed. Ian also called in as we were wanting to talk about the camp at Lake Mburo, hopefully to be in January.
We really appreciate all your love and support. The new boys are doing well – they can all swim now and considering we have so many teenagers the boys all get on well together.
