Boys returning from school/college, Jade arrives, thank you to The Church of the Ascension, Wembley who had an afternoon raising funds for HoP.
Sunday 18th August 2024
Dear friends,
This week seems to have flown by. We were in the office Monday sorting out the money for the week and preparing for the arrival of some of the boys back from college.
Monday afternoon Griffin, Joseph and Joseph (Yusuf) arrived back from Don Bosco. Their school reports were excellent. Dennis and Brian arrived home on Friday and Kasita is arriving today (Saturday). I met with Ian on Tuesday afternoon to talk about the camp and we are having a team meeting this afternoon in Garuga.
I collected Jade from the airport on Wednesday and we called at George’s Place, only the three boys from Don Bosco were there and the staff. Jade is a social worker from the UK who has come to work with us for a few weeks, she has experience in mental health and addiction and is coming on the camp with us, I’m sure her input and advice will be really helpful. On Thursday we sorted out a SIM card for Jade’s phone and then collected Peace from the office and went to Garuga, to chat with Griffin and Joseph about their internships.
“This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says: ‘In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength,” Isaiah 30:15
Griffin has now been to Skyz Hotel in Kampala and has been offered an internship for the holidays. Joseph has to go back on Monday to NWSC (National Water) to hopefully resume his internship, he worked for them during the last holidays. Dennis who is studying for his A levels is returning to his father’s home in Gulu to study.
The younger boys at Little Angels finished their exams on Thursday and Saidi informed me he has done very well! Joshua has also been taking more mock exams this week and has gone on a camp with Maranatha school this weekend, visiting a National Park and other places, he called in to see us on Wednesday evening as I had collected some of his casual clothes and bought him some snacks/pocket money for the weekend. He is fine, though anxious about his maths – we might need to get him some extra tuition.
Friday Jade and I went into Kampala and bought journal books and torches for the boys, marshmallows to roast and craft items for activities whilst we are away.
This afternoon we had our team meeting for the camp at the swimming pool, whilst the younger boys swam and enjoyed playing football.
The rest of our boys will be returning to George’s Place next week, so there will be a full house!
Thank you for all your love and support. The Church of the Ascension in Wembley had an afternoon raising money for us today and our thanks to Soulla, Jackie (their vicar from Uganda) and others for all their hard work, support, love and kindness.
Every blessing.
Love Jane x
