Visiting Johnson, travelling to see Patrick, building the mushroom house, boys finishing their exams.
Sunday 11th August 2024
Dear friends,
Last Sunday after church I went to visit Johnson as it was his school visiting day. He met me at the school gates and after signing in we sat and talked for nearly two hours. I had ordered him chicken and chips but it arrived as fish and chips – it’s good that most of our boys are not fussy what they eat!
I’ve been travelling this week. Tresor, Jessie and I went to Rukungiri on Wednesday to see Patrick who is working in a welding workshop. He has settled with his grandparents in an area where he lived as a young child before being sent to his father in Kampala as he was becoming a ‘handful’. Patrick was on the streets for many years before he came to us and was known by all the NGO’s working with children on the streets – there have even been ‘blips’ in the last few years but he really seems to have settled down and we were happy to give him a small welding and grinding machine for his work as he comes out of our care.

On our journey we were surprised to see how dry it was everywhere, this area in the south west is usually cooler and wetter but it looked as if there had been very little rain. We were pleased to see many zebra’s by the Lake Mburo turnoff and also lots of Crested Crane in the Rukungiri area (the National bird).
I also had the opportunity to meeting my sponsored child, Grace (through Bridge of Hope Children’s Ministry). She is now 14 years old and growing into a lovely young girl. She is in Senior 1 and stays with her foster parents, who have 11 children all grown up now, two of their sons are builders and have built an amazing extension to their home, which is wood but looks brick built. It was lovely to see them and to pray with the family.
Work has been going on at George’s Place, the chicken house has been relocated to the back of the building (only three chickens left at present). A new structure has been built for our mushroom project. We obviously now need to obtain the mushroom gardens so that we can start growing mushrooms! Patrick estimates that we can have 300 gardens in the house!
The boys have been busy taking end of term exams and Joshua went to take his mock P7 exams two days this week. Some of the older boys break up at the end of next week and have been calling asking if they can come earlier but they need to pick up their reports and circulars from the schools/colleges before they return.
The young boys enjoyed football Saturday morning and I visited them later, I had treated them to a small toy car each which they appreciated and enjoyed playing with.
Thank you for all your love and support,
Love and prayers.
Jane
