Augustine visits, younger boys go on school tour and receive school reports
Sunday 4th August 2024
Dear friends,
Good morning,
Peace lost her voice last weekend and this was then followed by a bad cold. She was only in the office on Tuesday, as she had to fill in some urgent paperwork for the Ministry of Gender and delivered it to Wakiso District on Wednesday she also called to see the Probation Officer, Peter, at Old Kampala about Joseph’s grandfather.
Augustine arrived at the office Tuesday to greet us and then Trésor took him to George’s Place, where he stayed the night. We haven’t seen much of him recently as he has been working on building sites. He took a photo of his certificate from our files, from CCP where he did his building course, at the time they didn’t give DIT certificates, we have said we will look into sending him to Don Bosco just to take the DIT exam. He would like to join the army doing building work – his father is in the army and probably could help him get in. He is such a sensible young man, chatty, happy and pleasant, and appreciative of what Homes of Promise has done for him. He was very sick when he first came in 2016.
“Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.” 2 Corinthians 4:16
Thursday morning I went to the bank to deliver papers for changing our bank mandate and then met Ken and a friend of his, Helen, from the U.K. for coffee. We now have to have two signatures for signing cheques, I have always been able to sign alone but the auditors are insisting this is changed. Later in the day I drove to George’s Place to catch up with Benard. He is off this weekend and I just wanted to check the young boys were fine. We have received their school reports and all are doing well – even Joseph, he probably should be in a higher class – Benard says he is good at spelling.
We have had some work done on the ‘new’ car which Jessie recommended.
I have a young lady, Jade, coming from the U.K. to stay with me. She is a social worker and will join us on the camp at the end of August, hopefully she will be able to spend time with the boys during the holidays and help them with their school work, she’s also bringing some games to teach them.
I visited George’s Place on Saturday, we walked to the swimming pool in the heat of the day only to find that cleaning chemicals had just been put in the water and the boys couldn’t swim. They will go Sunday. They played on the swings for about an hour and looked at photos on my iPad before we walked back home and did some colouring. The boys were tired as on Friday they had had a ‘tour’ day at school visiting a bakery and Freedom City where there is lots to do, not returning home until 7.30pm. Today it is Johnson’s school visiting day so I’ll go there after church and take him chicken and chips!
All is well here, we’ve had some rain this week followed by sun! Christine’s cousin went back to the U.S. last Monday. I’ve also been watching some of the Olympics on my ipad and enjoyed the gymnastics.
Thank you for all your love, support and interest in our work. God has been blessing and protecting us as we move forward.
With love and prayers.
