Management Meeting, Tresor and Benard visit Don Bosco, sad news, Alex passes away.
Sunday 28th July 2024
Dear friends,
Last Sunday following church I drove up to Garuda to see the boys. I took a book of patterns to colour in and they spent a couple of hours engrossed in colouring. I was really pleased to see the finished articles pinned on the notice board this week. Joseph (Ryan) really seemed to enjoy doing this and carefully coloured in a picture of cakes and strawberries. They had chicken for lunch – Saidi is the chicken slaughterer!
It rained heavily on Monday afternoon whilst we were all at work, and on my way home I saw a dog who had obviously been caring for her young puppies in a drain carrying them to safety, one at a time (4 of them). The following day I took some meat for her, she was fiercely protective, sadly I haven’t seen her or the puppies since. On Tuesday Tresor drove Benard to Don Bosco and they caught up with Joseph (welding), Griffin (Catering) and Joseph (Agriculture). They all seem well. Joseph had received a certificate for a business and life skills boot camp he had attended, he and Griffin finish their courses later this year.
“Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them round your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.” Proverbs 3:3
We have had to buy a new printer for the office, we had one that had been shipped from the UK years ago, it’s been difficult to get it serviced and also to buy the ink cartridges and at last gave up! The new one is a laser inkjet printer and we are hoping that it will work well and last for years.
We have heard some very sad news from Kenya, Alex (from Nairobi) who joined us on the camp last year had been knocked down by a car and sadly passed away last Sunday, leaving a wife and two young children – Ian is planning to go to the funeral next week.
On Thursday we had our Management Meeting, everyone attended, the new Probation Officer Joanne, Health Inspector Chris, Ken, Ian, Norah (on zoom), Patience (Probation Officer who has been with us from the start of our work), Juma the Speaker of Katabi Town Council, and the staff. It was a really helpful meeting. Following lunch (more chicken) the staff had a meeting to plan for the camp in August, we are going back to Lake Mburo but won’t be going into the National Park this year as it’s expensive, there will be plenty to do at the campsite.
Peace didn’t work on Tuesday this week as she was taking her daughter to the dentist – amazingly she saw Jovan sitting holding his young sibling in a shopping mall, waiting for their mum. Peace had a conversation with him and saw he was fine, this is good as he needs to be on medication daily and although we had heard he had returned home it was good to have it confirmed. An answer to prayer.
All is well with the boys they are looking forward to the end of term. Saidi did well in his end of term exams and achieved 80% in most subjects, 90% in one but says he needs help with literacy! He is a bright young lad and a definite leader.
Yesterday we had our church women’s fellowship meeting at my home and 11 of us met together to spend the morning in sharing and ministering to each other.
Thank you for all your prayers, support and interest in our work. There are so many blessings but of course challenges as well.
With love and prayers
