Camping at the Sailing Club, sailing, party for Tresor and Soleil
Sunday 31st August 2025
Dear friends,
We’ve had a wonderful camp at the sailing club, for 19 boys, only a little rain one afternoon and about 5,000 Scouts camping next door – their jamboree!
We worked Monday in the office – Tresor then went and bought two more tents. We arrived at the camp site just after 10am on Tuesday – settled in – none of the boys had been there before – so lots to explore. Halima had cooked beans so only rice and veggies needed prepared for lunch.
We had bought plenty of games with us and later in the afternoon had team games. Sula was really good at hiding! Precious came with me and was exhausted when I dropped her back at the office later. Each evening there was a camp fire and ‘Ask the Pastor’ question time. Morning devotions were on Romans 12 v 1-2 about being living sacrifices and having our minds transformed – lots of good conversations with the older boys. Wednesday morning we walked the boys to a nearby hotel for swimming – lovely environment near the lake, there was also a basketball court. I relaxed on a sun bed!
In the afternoon we had an art competition which most of the young ones entered – prizes of sweets and biscuits.
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
Romans 12:2
Thursday was the highlight as Philip from church came on his boat to take us on a trip – some of us went on the club’s small boat first until it was our turn. Victor was captain’s mate and steered whilst Philip sorted out the sails and ropes. There were a couple of occasions when it looked quite precarious but everyone was fine. Saidi had befriended a young boy at the club only 8 years old but an accomplished sailor who took him out in his little boat – Saidi was thrilled.
The older boys helped with preparing the food and there were rota’s for washing up, cleaning and sweeping. There were no upsets, everyone behaved well and there was a real sense of The Lord’s presence with us. Thank you for your prayers.
Friday was my day off – I collected the staff gift for Tresor and Soleil from the office and checked on the cake being made. We have planned a wedding party for them today, Saturday for 50 people – it’s certainly been a busy week!
The party went well – Halima and her sisters cooked with Vincent helping. Some of Trésor’s family came, as well as Ian, Mark, Elisha and Sam who went to Rwanda for the wedding. Also Augustine, Omoding, Tim and Godfrey were there. It was a lovely afternoon.
I leave Uganda next Wednesday afternoon arriving back in the U.K. Thursday morning – I shall miss everyone here but it will be good to meet up with many of you.
Thank you for all your love and support.
Love and prayers,
Jane x
