Joseph starts driving lessons, Judith celebrates 56 years here, Staff meeting, Gill staying for a couple of days

Sunday 4th October 2026

Good morning friends,

Joseph was in the office on Monday and has now started his driving lessons. Tresor took him to register for a provisional licence, and from 1st October he has a 30 min. lesson every day for a month. At weekends he has theory classes.

On Tuesday our Ladies Fellowship celebrated Judith’s 56 years in Uganda with brunch and cake at Annabel’s home, a lovely occasion.

On Wednesday, Peace, Petra and I went to Garuga for a really helpful staff meeting. We discussed a few issues with the boys, ‘making sure we are all singing from the same song sheet’, and suggested putting in place a scheme allowing the boys to have different responsibilities during an academic term, e.g. in charge of making sure dishes are being washed up, bedrooms being kept tidy, everyone is washing their clothes, and the boys’ appearances when going out to school, football, church, hoping this will make the home run more smoothly. We had fried tilapia and chips for lunch that Halima cooked – a real treat – the boys had beef that evening! Usually it’s posho and greens for lunch on Wednesdays!

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will.” ‭‭Romans‬ ‭12‬:‭2‬

All is well here. Martin’s wife, Gill, has been in Kampala since last Monday running a training course at the Ministry of Finance. We met up on Friday, and she has stayed a couple of nights with me. Saturday morning we went to the botanical gardens and then called in at George’s Place. We are planning an evening with two of Gill’s Ugandan friends who are coming for takeaway!

The boys have been busy with general cleaning of the store and are off to football this afternoon.

It’s visiting days for Kasita and Musumba this weekend, before they start their ‘0’ level exams. Petra visited Kasita on Saturday, and I had a chance to wish him all the best on the phone; these meetings go on for hours! Petra suggested I take food and drinks with me as I’m visiting Musumba on Sunday. The staff and boys have all signed large Good Luck cards. Your prayers for them, please.

Thank you for all your love and support.

Lots of love
