This week we have been busy planning for all the boys returning to school, primary and secondary and for Denis joining Don Bosco on a building course. There are so many requirements – from toilet paper to text books and then of course replacing uniforms that the boys have grown out of – some of them are getting so big! As well as this there is the paying of school fees before they arrive, which have to be approved by Ken and Ian and authorised by myself for the bank to pay! I think they all seem to be looking forward to returning to their studies. Some of the younger ones haven’t returned yet as we are insisting that the boys are registered for birth certificates by their families before they return, which will make it much easier for us. Recently we have bought the young boys football kits (and boots for those who didn’t have a pair) I’m sure the boys still in the village will be happy with these when they return.
The older boys are all fine, though Kodet, Yusuf and ‘young’ Brian are in trouble for going off looking for work and not keeping in touch! They found some and worked three days on a building site earning some money – sleeping there 2 nights but of course their phones ran out of power and we couldn’t get hold of them. Auntie Peace, Petra, Tresor and Benard spoke to them on Thursday and they have apologised but they need to know that this is not acceptable as they might be 18 or over but are still in our care. I called to see them Friday afternoon and had a long chat. I received lots of apologies on WhatsApp! All these boys have been with us since 2017 they are great lads and obviously growing up fast!
“Then they asked him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?” “Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.”
John 6:29
I have been unwell again, this week, with vomiting, upset stomach, headache etc. I think it was because I had a juice made with contaminated water. I spent 36 hrs in bed but am better now.
Christine arrived on Thursday and is staying with me for the next month – it’s been good to catch up with her.
We are hoping Saviour might be able to join an internship at The Speke Hotel with Victor later this month and we are getting all the paperwork and medical examination in place for that. Victor has also received a new phone this week to enable him to look up recipes for work. Friday evening he phoned saying he was unwell and he went to Access Clinic which is nearby where he stays, it appears he has flu and ulcers (lots of people suffer from ulcers here!
This Saturday I went to a housewarming at Jun and Lafelle’s so had a day off, they have a great apartment with views over Kampala, lots of people there, mainly from church.
The rainy season seems to have arrived and we’ve had rain most days. It’s really heavy this morning and looks like it might last for a few hours, consequently the temperature has fallen and I’m finding it chilly.
Everything is slowly getting back to normal following the elections and there has been little trouble recently. Thank you for all your love, kindness and support.
