International Women’s Day 8th March, Saviour starts his internship at The Speke Resort, Petra visits Kasita, Sula visits
Sunday 8th March 2026
Dear friends,
Happy Women’s Day.
The rainy season is in full swing – I think it’s rained every day for the last week – I’m finding it cold as well, it’s probably only been about 21 degrees! Last weekend Yusuf sent me a couple of photos as he attended an Agricultural Fair with KCCA at Kololo – he seems to be enjoying the internship.
This week Moses has been able to speak to his mother, brother and some neighbours on the phone and we are hoping to link up with a video call over the weekend. Saviour started at The Speke Resort hotel on Tuesday and he and Victor have found a room nearby for them to stay in (we are paying the rent) whilst they do their internships. Saviour had a good reference from MCC. I met up with Victor on Wednesday afternoon as he is on nights and he took me to see the room. He also told me Denis had been in touch with him and had made some friends at Don Bosco already. It’s great that the boys keep in touch with each other and share news.
Tresor and Soleil went on the overnight bus to Rwanda on Wednesday as his granny has passed away – I think she was nearly 100.
“Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Honour her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.”
Proverbs 31:30-31
Peace has been ill all week so unfortunately we were unable to rescue any boys from the streets. Augustine also called me to say he was unwell and had gone to the clinic. Prayers please for Tim – he still has a cough and sore throat despite medication. I am concerned about him as his immune system is very compromised.
More sad news a young man 20 yrs old was murdered at work near to George’s Place at the beginning of the week, he was working as a night security guard at a parking bay – 3 Boda’s were stolen, I doubt if anyone will be prosecuted. These things happen here fairly regularly. Patrick will attend the funeral today, Saturday, as he knew him, he came from near his home town.
New Brian is in the process of building a small home on land near his sister in Arua – we have been able to send him some money towards the iron sheets and door. Hopefully we will get some photos shortly.
There was a visiting day for Saidi last Sunday but as we were not informed by the school until last Saturday none of us was able to attend. Petra is visiting Kasita today, as he has a visiting day – they only went back to school a couple of weeks ago but as he is in S4 this might be about ‘O’ level registration.
I went to George’s Place at lunch time today. Sula called me this morning and is planning a visit this afternoon as he hasn’t been back for a few weeks. He tells me the internship is going well at the hairdressers. When I arrived some of the boys were at school but arrived home lunchtime. I have taken them to Banana Village for a swim – it rained all morning and has just brightened up, Dan and Kodet didn’t want to come so the other 7 squeezed into my car with Uncle Ben! Sula arrived at the pool!
We haven’t heard anything from any of the boys in Senior school this week, though I did call in at Maranatha and pay for a school jumper for Joshua on Wednesday morning. Kodet should be starting his vocational training next week, he has all the requirements already.
As news of the war in the Middle East escalates I’m sure our thoughts and prayers are with all those suffering, as we pray “Father, there is so much pain and conflict across the Middle East; we pray for leaders throughout the region and ask you to turn their hearts towards peace.”
Thank you for all your love and support.
Love Jane x
