The hike, Saviour did well at MCC, preparing to return to school/college, Petra off work for three months
Sunday 25th May 2025
Dear friends,
Greetings from Kampala. This week, the boys have been enjoying the last week of their holidays. On Tuesday, we took a boat to the other side of the lake and had a six-mile hike mostly in the rain. Ian had undertaken this walk before with members from the church and had arranged stopping points. Everyone enjoyed themselves, we ate our lunch, standing under a school veranda, of sausages, rolex (chapati with omelette inside, Kasita had helped cook the omelettes), biscuits and juice. Apart from squelchy mud and wet feet, we were fine (my trainers are still an orange colour despite being washed twice). I was relieved when I recognised a trading centre from our walk on Boxing Day and knew it was only a further 2 kilometres to the next landing site!
Beckham gave me a large stick to help me not to slip over but there were always hands/arms to help me when I was sliding!
Friday, the boys went off to football, so I visited again on Saturday afternoon. Ian and Mark (the church youth worker who also came on the hike) called in as they had been nearby. Later in the afternoon, the boys walked to Sky Beach with Benard and Tresor to enjoy swimming in the pool, the swings and more football.
‘It is worth any sacrifice however great or costly
To see eyes that were listless light up again
To see someone smile who seemed to have forgotten how to smile
To see trust reborn in someone who no longer believed in anyone or anything.’

Saviour has appreciated his time at MCC and made me a cappuccino on Friday morning when I visited. Sula has also been in the hairdressing salon all week.
Petra is off work now on maternity leave, she left everything in good order, arranging for all the bank transfers for the coming month. She also has access to our office computer through her laptop and can check all that Precious and I are doing! She is very conscientious and I will miss her in the office. 🙏 for the safe arrival of her new baby.
We have everything in place for the boys returning to school/college – Tresor collected all the requirements from the office one afternoon and has been out buying trainers, football boots etc. that were needed.
Dan arrived back on Friday, his father brought him. We will be sending money for George and Shila’s school fees this coming week. Saidi is the only one not to have returned yet but he always leaves it to the last minute and I’m sure he’ll make it for school on Monday.
Thank you for all your love and support, we give thanks that we are able to pay all this terms school fees.
