Tresor and Soleil engaged, Griffin training at Munyonyo, Sula training in a hairdressing salon, and Saviour learning how to make cappuccinos at MCC
Sunday 18th May 2025
Dear friends,
Last weekend whilst Tresor was in Rwanda he got engaged to Soleil – the wedding is booked for the 9th August in Kigali – Ian is officiating at the service. Congratulations to them both.
It’s Friday morning and I’m sitting at the Immigration office hoping I have everything in place to at last receive my work permit. There is a long queue!
Giving thanks, as I only waited 2 hours and now have a permit for two years!
The boys are all fine. Griffin began at Munyonyo on the night shift Tuesday and Wednesday and was then told to start on the day shift Friday. He called in the office one morning needing a chef’s knife which he now has. Sula is training in a hairdressing salon and took Ryan with him to shave his hair on Wednesday. Some of our older boys are reluctant to have Sula touch their heads!
On Tuesday the boys went to Entebbe to play in a football tournament some of our older boys were in the runners up team and received medals.
Peace, Petra and I went out to lunch on Wednesday, Petra’s baby is due shortly, she was desperate to eat fish so we went to the lake shore for a meal. Following this we went to George’s Place to see and talk with the boys. Some of them were in trouble for not washing their clothes and leaving them in soak!
“And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:7
We have had one of our old laptops fixed for Kasita to use at school. We now have internet at GP for the older ones to do their home work – it is also turned on for two hours Saturday and Sundays. I have bought a sewing machine this week as I think Joseph (Yusuf) and Denis will learn quite quickly how to be using it, both are very practical.
Saviour has begun at MCC learning how to make cappuccinos, I met him there first thing Saturday morning, looking very smart, and keen to be working, if only for a week. He and Victor have been baking cakes this week. Victor felt unwell Friday and was taken to the clinic, diagnosed with typhoid and given medication intravenously- miraculously – having removed the cannula he was showing off at the swimming pool diving in, Saturday afternoon!
I think we need some staff discussion/training on looking at how ill a boy is before we whisk them off to the clinic, unless typhoid is cured that quickly!
I have been in contact with a young lady from Denmark who was here recently and met Bethel’s family and wants to help them. She tells me she has paid their rent and also paid a terms boarding school fees for the children but the family are staying with friends and the boys have not attended school. Tresor is willing to find out what has happened. It is difficult for our organisation to get involved as we are registered to help street children and not refugees. Tresor being a refugee from Congo is in a better position to help.
On Saturday we took the boys to the Scout camp at Kazzi Beach where they enjoyed swimming and football. Everyone enjoyed the afternoon – hoping I’m not sunburnt as there was very little shade!
Thank you for all your love and support – the boys only have another week off school/college.
Love and prayers.
