Stephen starts work, the mushroom project doing well, message from Jade
Sunday 20th October 2024
Dear friends,
Everything has been quiet at Homes of Promise this week, I did talk to all the younger boys last Sunday on a video call and they were fine. Ian has advised me that there has been a ‘bug’ going round but the boys seem to be fit and healthy. Hopefully the staff are as well! I have had to authorise a few bank transactions but no problems thankfully. Peace and Ian had a meeting with young Denis and Kodet but so far I am not sure of the outcome.
Tresor has sent me photos of the young boys in the new sandals they had last week and also more photos of the mushroom harvest, which is doing well. There are also photos of the boys doing their chores on Saturday morning and some of them trying to work out how to solve the Rubic Cube, Jade left – doesn’t look like they have succeeded yet! Benard is off this weekend and the new deputy warden, Stephen, has been at George’s Place. He and Tresor took the boys swimming on Saturday afternoon.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Matthew 11:28-29
Jade is now in Kenya, I really loved having her stay – she knew all the boys names virtually after one visit, taught them how to play rounders, Jenga, UNO and different card games, plus her team won the scavenger hunt on the camp, she has so much energy! Jade also drove me everywhere, cooked for me and helped in every way she could! I’ll miss her when I get back! Below are a few words that she has written about her time in Uganda.
‘Now in Kenya, it’s hard to believe that I’ve just spent the last two months in Uganda. When I first arrived, I had no idea what to expect, but I quickly fell in love with the beautiful country and its people. The boys are all so special and unique, each in their own way. Despite the challenges they’ve faced, they’re doing remarkably well, and it’s been an honour to spend time with them. The camp was so much fun, and I’ve loved playing football with the boys and enjoying countless games together.
I was able to take the younger boys to the Botanic Gardens, and afterwards, we watched Transformers in 3D at the cinema; it was a nice way to say goodbye, and we had a great time. Sadly, I didn’t get to see the older boys again, as they’re away at school. It has also been such a pleasure to get to know the staff; they’re doing an incredible job supporting the boys.
Uganda is a truly special place, and I’m already looking forward to visiting again. I miss the boys already and can’t wait to see everyone again, hopefully, in the not too distant future.’ Jade.
I’ve been on a silent retreat at St. Katherine’s in the East End of London for the last couple of days on the theme of the ‘Jesus Prayer’ which was really helpful.
I’m looking forward to seeing some of you on Sunday 27th at Jesus Church. Thank you for all the things I have received so far for shipment.
Thank you also for all your love and support.
With love and prayers.
