Match funding offered towards Charles’ heart operation.
Sunday 13th October 2024
Dear friends,
Last Sunday Jade took the young boys with Benard to the Botanical Gardens and later to the cinema to see a 3D film – I think it was ‘The Wild Robot’, a real treat and I believe they enjoyed the experience. Jade also sent me some photos of her travels in Uganda. Trekking and camping in the Rwenzori mountains looks wonderful, if not a bit scary. She is leaving Uganda shortly and going to Kenya but hoping to visit again next year. I am expecting Jade to write something on her experiences for me to send round to you all.
It was Uganda Independence Day on Wednesday and the younger boys had a day off school. They went on a walk to the lake and later Ian visited them, they also went to buy new sandals. The new deputy Warden, Stephen, has started work this weekend, at George’s Place, and took the boys for football this morning. It was a school visiting day for Big Dennis and Brian so Benard visited them as Peace was unable to go and Tresor was at the Kampala International Church retreat.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
A few weeks ago I mentioned that Petra’s nephew, Charles, who lives with her has a heart condition, RHD, and needs a major operation. Someone has come forward who is willing to pay a substantial amount towards the operation with match funding. I am mentioning this, in case you know of anyone who would be willing to help. Your prayers please as the prognosis is not good if he doesn’t have the operation shortly.
The mushroom project has had its first harvest and some of the mushrooms will be taken to church today as a ‘thanks’ offering. We will look into buying more gardens either this coming week or the following. I have suggested that the staff and boys try eating some of the mushrooms, by adding them to the sauces but have had no comments back. Mushrooms are a luxury in Uganda and are only usually bought in the large retail supermarkets and not sold locally – it will probably take them a while to appreciate the texture and taste. When I return we will be looking into marketing.
I will be shipping a few boxes of things back to Uganda, if anyone has collected any good secondhand T-shirts, trainers, shorts, trousers etc. they will be much appreciated. If you contact me I can let you have my son Nicky’s address for you to send them to, or otherwise if you can bring them to the Afternoon Tea on the 27th.
Thank you for all your prayers, love and support. Today, Saturday, was London Prayer Day and I was at St. Martin in the Fields early this morning where the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Bishop of London and the Area Bishops joined the
Nazareth Community for our monthly meeting.
Looking forward to seeing many of you on the 27th.
Love and blessings.
