Bank holidays! Visiting Dan’s family, football competition, still lots of rain around
Sunday 8th June 2025
Dear friends,
It feels like it’s been a week of Bank holidays, Tuesday was Martyrs Day, Friday Eid al-Adha, and next Monday Heroes Day – not a lot of work being done and the young boys all off school!
Vincent our weekend cook is fitting in well and plays goalkeeper when the boys are enjoying football in the compound. Halima didn’t work Friday so Tresor and Raymond cooked – I didn’t know Tresor could cook, neither did the boys! Looks like they ate the food. The bikes are all needing attention since the older ones were home which we will sort out next week.
The boys are all fine and it’s been quiet – Ivan called and needs a battery for his solar panel – he has moved into a better room, the other one was very damp. Augustine phoned and wanted me to look in his file for a copy of his mum’s ID which I sent him to enable him to process his ID. Tim also phoned and is fine, doesn’t go back to the hospital for a check until August. Griffin is working hard and still enjoying being at the Speke Hotel. I met Big Brian driving his Boda on Saturday afternoon and he’s keeping well.
“The Lord is close to the broken-hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Psalms 34:18
Prayers please for Dan, he is around but keeping very much to himself since he came back to George’s Place. Peace and I travelled to Kayunga on Wednesday to check on his family and pay the school lunches and fees for Shila and George, which we did. Unfortunately, Shila had fallen ill at school and George had escorted her home. We visited the home and took her to a pharmacy to be tested – she has malaria so we bought the appropriate medication. The dad, George and Ronald are all fine. George has acquired a puppy and built him a home at the back of the house – poor little thing was hungry and nervous. I found him something to eat which he readily devoured. It is really difficult to know how to help this family – the land is just a small plot, the house very damp with mud floors. We are thinking of asking Augustine to go and see if it’s possible to cement the floor and the walls to make it stronger and drier. The family are always happy and smiling though Shila really wasn’t well. The dad gave us a sack of maize for our boys which they have enjoyed.
I’ve had a couple of days off work, had my hair cut, went out for a meal one evening with Ian – Trevor collected me from Yellow Haven on his scooter which was an experience on rough, potholed roads, thought I was a teenager again!
The boys went to football on Tuesday and Saturday. They played in a competition on Tuesday and came third. On Saturday they lost 5-1. There was a pool table at the place and they enjoyed trying to play.
We now have a date for the Management Meeting later this month so Peace and I have been busy writing reports. Myles, Petra’s baby, has been jaundiced and has had treatment, they are still in the hospital. Precious is working well and everything is running smoothly, for which we are thankful. There is still a lot of rain around and it’s not as hot as usual but no one ever complains about anything here!
Thank you for all your love and support.
