Charles discharged from hospital, Griffin’s father comes to meet us, Joshua in Maranatha High School
Sunday 16th February 2025
Dear friends,
First thing Monday morning I went to Maranatha to check that everything was in order for Joshua to enrol, Benard took him at lunch time but there were so many youngsters arriving it took until 5pm!
Following this, I went to the office and Griffin arrived, his father came from Iganga to meet with Peace and I. After our meeting they went to George’s Place as the father has never seen where his son has been staying! Griffin would like to find work in a hotel in Entebbe, whereas we are asking him to look nearer to his home town as it is expensive to stay in this area. I don’t think we convinced him but he is coming with us next week when we travel through Iganga and staying there a couple of days. He’s a nice young lad and very focused on doing well as a cook.
Joseph will also be going back to his village next week to collect his National ID and see if he can find work with National Water in that area.
On Tuesday Ian came to the office as we had the annual staff appraisals. By lunch time we went to Garuga to appraise Benard, Patrick and Halima. These all went well. Peace came with us to talk with the older boys and also to interview a weekend cook who will be joining us this weekend for a trial period – Vincent.

Sadly Charles was discharged from hospital on Wednesday as they will not operate on him here – they say we could take him to Rwanda for the operation but he is very weak and we might get him there and they also refuse to operate. He was happy to be out of the hospital. Prayers please as he settles back at Petra’s home and for the pain management. We are helping with a carer whilst Petra is at work.
Unfortunately, there are very few photos this week, Tresor has been in Rwanda visiting family and I’ve been in the office most days. A parcel did come from the U.K. last week but we haven’t even opened it yet! We also had a new delivery of mushroom gardens last week and we are hoping to start selling shortly.
My work permit expired on the 7th, my papers are with immigration but my phone has been cut off which is slightly inconvenient as I’ve lost a lot of my phone numbers. Petra has registered a new line for me in her name.
Jessie took Ronald to Mubende on Wednesday to help him find work at a busier garage and hopefully he will be going back there soon to work in the centre of town.
The boys are at football this Saturday so I probably won’t go up to Garuga until Sunday afternoon. It’s not been an easy week!
Thank you for all your love, support and prayers.
Love Jane x
