Visiting Connect Africa, collecting Derek’s DIT certificate, Joseph home to visit ENT clinic; rain, rain and more rain!
Sunday 30th March 2025
Dear friends,
The rainy season has arrived! We have had torrential rain nearly every day this week. It usually stops by lunchtime. On Wednesday we were visiting the boys at Connect Africa and the rain was terrible, causing traffic jams and flooding all over Kampala. Eleven people were killed in the floods. It took us two hours to collect Peace (thankfully Jessie was driving) and on the road to the vocational institute the roads were under water in different places, we arrived safely though a car did hit the back of mine and then drove off, luckily it hit the ‘bull bar’ and caused us little damage – he lost his front number plate though.
When we arrived at Connect Africa Saviour gave us the good news that he is being baptised at Worship Harvest on the 4th April, at Naalya, where he has been attending regularly, hopefully some of the staff will be able to go to the service. That day I am visiting Joshua (Saviour’s younger brother for visiting day). Victor, Saviour and Sula were all fine though Sula has been fasting for Ramadan for the last month which finishes today.
On our way we called at Marjorine Vocational Institute to collect Derek’s DIT certificate, he achieved an ‘A’ in motor mechanics, he left our care last year. There is going to be a graduation ceremony for him at the end of April. He’s working in Iganga, not far from his home village.
Joseph (Yusuf) has been home this week as he has been suffering from nosebleeds. The ENT doctor got stuck in traffic in the flooding and the clinic was cancelled, Joseph has to go back to the hospital next week. I think the older boys like to come home for a few days (he hasn’t had a nosebleed since he’s been back) and did manage to go to football Saturday!
“They asked each other, ‘Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?’”
Luke 24:32
Peace has spoken to Ronald and he seems to be settling well in Mubende. We are hoping he might come with the older boys to the camp we are organising at the end of April. Peace also visited Brian on Saturday at Bethany High School for his visiting day.
Petra hasn’t been in the office this week as she didn’t return from the village. She thought she had flu, with all the upset of the past few weeks I think she needed some time off to recuperate.
Augustine sent me a photo of himself working and I keep hearing from Dennis in Gulu, the University doesn’t start up until June so we will arrange to meet up with him before then. Griffine sadly hasn’t found work yet, prayers please.
The decorating has started at George’s Place. Peace and I did visit on Tuesday afternoon and I also called in on Thursday afternoon, in the compound we have oranges, lemons, mangoes, small bananas (delicious) matoke and jackfruit growing. We are pleased that the boys seem to be waiting until they ripen before eating them! We also have a large Great Blue Turaco who keeps sitting at the top of one of the trees and winding Zimba up! Poor Zimba barks and barks but the bird just ignores him and us!
The younger boys all have new school uniforms – they are growing so quickly. They had football this Saturday and are training for the tournament in April.
Thank you for all your support and kindness.
