I’m back in Uganda, visiting day for Young Brian and older Dennis. Joshua finishes his P7 exams.
Sunday 10th November 2024
Dear friends,
It’s Saturday morning and I’m sitting on a sun bed in the gardens below my apartment writing this newsletter. I arrived back safely, Thursday afternoon, after 22 hrs. travelling, and was met by Jessie, Benard, Tresor and the eight younger boys at the airport. We then went to Georges Place for a cup of spiced tea and to see Gorette and Patrick. Everyone is well and welcomed me.
Joshua has finished his P7 exams and Tresor collected him from Peace on Friday – he has now finished Primary School, hopefully he has done well in the exams and will join Senior School in February.
“If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.” 1 Corinthians 13:1
Today is a Visiting Day for young Brian (not so young now), and older Dennis, Jessie is collecting me about 12 noon and we will collect Tresor on our way at Kajjansi, he has been with the boys who had a football match this morning, (they lost). Brian and Dennis are at Bethany High School which is the other side of Kampala, I didn’t think I could face driving in all the traffic yet! They have their exams on Monday – prayers please as Brian had a toothache we took him to get painkillers.
News
- Young Denis returned to school on Friday.
- The young boys were off school Monday to Thursday as P7 exams were taking place and have been helping with general cleaning.
- Zimba has been in trouble and locked up some of the time as he is trying to demolish the mushroom house!
- Joseph at Don Bosco phoned to say he has exams next week and needed some items.
- Sula at Hope International also has exams next week – I have bought some hairdressing scissors back with me.
Yesterday I called in at our office to collect my small phone and did some food shopping, tomorrow I will also drive to church which will be an ‘introduction’ to the different or lack of driving rules, it takes me a few days to get used to all the bodas!
As I was driving back from shopping, old Brian, who left our care about 4 years ago drove past on his boda and greeted me, I pulled over to have a conversation with him – he is fine, looked good but said his son was in the clinic with an infection. It is really encouraging to meet up with our older boys unexpectedly, to see them working and doing well – I suggested he called up to George’s Place when he has some spare money for diesel. As we say in Africa – God is good all the time! (Response) All the time God is good!
My iPad has just over heated – (surprising as I’m sitting in the shade) it is not working so am now using my phone to write this.
Christine called to see me yesterday morning with breakfast of yogurt, banana, mango and granola, delicious, and then Doreen a young lady who used to come to our Saturday morning fellowship but is now working called later in the afternoon. I am thankful for the friends that I have made here over the years and their loving care and fellowship.
Thank you for all your commitment to our work – the money I transferred with difficulty from the U.K. last week – hasn’t arrived in our account yet – Petra is finding out where it is!
Please continue praying for our work as we move forward into the coming year – I’m sure we will be given more boys shortly. The Probation Officer came to George’s Place on Wednesday with Peace as we have to renew our Children’s Home registration this month – all the paperwork was done before I left for the U.K.
With love and prayers.
