Dear friends,

It’s Saturday morning and has just started to rain. Diana and I walked Peanut first thing when it was cloudy, cool and dry. We could do with the rain, as it’s been really hot all week – most things stop when the rain starts in Uganda, no one ventures out until it clears up! We have planned to visit the new shopping Mall, Arena, this morning and then Christine has offered to treat us to lunch in celebration of our birthdays – Diana’s this week and mine next! I’ve taken a day off.

We have a new Warden, Benard, at the home and everything is running smoothly. The younger boys returned to school early Monday morning. At about 10am Peace and I took Dan to the school to register him, also for me to sort out school fees and buy the school socks, reading books and book covers from them (which we now have). We were surprised when we found that Dan had returned from school after lunch – walking himself back home, it was explained to him that he had to stay until 4pm when the teacher said it was time to go! Benard has been walking to meet him since then. Dan has been really tired all week, he comes home, greets me, washes his clothes, eats and sleeps. We need to buy the boys school shoes but there hasn’t been time over the last couple of weeks – hopefully we’ll be able to make a start next week! Dennis and Kodet went into High school on Thursday, Dennis in S4 and Kodet S1. All these boys are now in Maranatha Primary and Senior schools.

“Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” Luke 6 v38

Asaph has started his month’s Industrial training, (carpentry) in Nsambya and seems to be doing well. Also Ronald, Shaffick and new Brian returned to vocational training on Monday – their term finishes on 21st January and the new term starts again on 3rd February. Paul has made all the boys bags for their pencils and pens and made a pair of shorts for one of our neighbour’s sons.

Benard is a teacher, and has been helping the other four boys (Ivan, Benon, Derick and Robert) with some reading, maths and writing – as they wait to go into vocational training college next term. They have also been going out for walks with Benard and showing him the area. It is so quiet at George’s Place during the day which is giving us an opportunity to start having a major spring clean and also catch up with re-registering as an NGO. The tomato plants are growing and looking good!

When Kasita arrived back from the village be came with a chicken and cockerel for me, which I have bought to Diana’s as the chicken was laying eggs and I didn’t want her eaten. Diana thinks we should have a celebration supper with them (not the eggs) before we have to move out but for the moment they have been reprieved as the move date has been extended to the end of February. Most of our neighbours have moved out already.

Many thanks for all your support – so many people here are struggling to find school fees, it’s been amazing that the money has been here to pay for all the requirements, uniforms and fees. God is really blessing our work through your prayers and generosity.

With love and blessings,

Jane
