Charles’s operation postponed, boys prepared to go back to school/college, ‘Life Books’ worked on.
Sunday 2nd February 2025
Dear friends,
Last Sunday afternoon, Petra called me from the hospital to inform me that Charles’ operation has been postponed again. There had been a visit from the nutritionist and Charles has lost weight since he was admitted. The problem seems to be with his liver. Prayers, please.
We have been busy paying school/college fees this week, and Tresor has been ordering and buying all the requirements. Benard took Kasita to the eye clinic at Mengo Hospital on Wednesday, and he now has glasses as he is shortsighted.
The younger boys enjoyed a football tournament on Thursday in Entebbe, and I went to George’s place and met with the older boys, Musumba, Joseph (Yusuf), Kasita, Brian, Ronald and Joshua, and they worked on their ‘Life Story’ books. Kasita wrote a couple of pages on how difficult his early childhood had been with his mother and siblings (his father had passed away), information we hadn’t been aware of before. Brian also wrote about poverty in childhood. The boys enjoyed adding to the early photos we have of them and seeing how they have grown and changed.
“Hold on to instruction, do not let it go; guard it well, for it is your life.” Proverbs 4:13
On Tuesday morning, I took Joshua to Maranatha High School and registered him in S1. The administrators and teachers were happy to see him and to know that he was returning. (He had been in boarding there in P7 last year.) He’s such a nice young lad, and everyone likes him.
Peace has visited the district health inspector, and he has asked for photos of George’s place, which I have sent for Peace to deliver. Jessie took my car this week for new brake pads to be fixed, so the car is ready for us to be ‘travelling’ to see some of the boy’s parents/relatives in the next few weeks and check on the older boys.
Tresor unexpectedly met Augustine in Mukono on Wednesday, he has been unwell with typhoid but he took Tresor to show him where he worked as security and where he is also doing some building work.
Please be praying for DRC and the troubles there. Trésor’s brother’s family live in Goma, he is in the army, his wife and children yesterday managed to flee to Rwanda. There is very little news coming through, but we have a number of young people at church from DRC, and the following was sent by one of them from Goma:
‘Good morning brother and sisters, thank God, the war is somehow ceased, no more bombs and bullets, the rebels have captured our town, a lot of people died, this morning I was able to go out and see the situation, a lot of dead bodies are everywhere. The situation is very disastrous here. No food, no electricity, no internet. No water, I am using a roaming wifi from kisenyi rwanda. Of course, if you write to me, I will not see or answer your message. Thank you for your prayers.
Tim is fine. He has sent me a link to his dancing videos on YouTube – he seems to be doing well!! Gorette the cook has retired, she has been with us since we first started but has been unwell for a couple of months now, Halima is taking over as our week day cook and we are looking for a weekend cook.
Griffin had a day off on Friday, from the hotel and came to visit the boys, he is getting on well there. Joseph is still at National Water. A teacher came from Don Bosco yesterday to assess them. The boys went to football coaching and I visited later.
We believe Saidi is returning today, he has been with his mother in Lira and visited his grandmother in the village before coming back. He is fine. I think that is all the up-to-date news for this week.
Thank you for all your love and support.
Love Jane x
