Three of our street children getting on a bus

12th May, 2019

Dear friends,

It’s been a week of ‘comings and goings’.

Anton and Yusuf caught a bus back to Ibanda on Tuesday, and Samuel went back to his grandmother in the village. They arrived safely, Anton has sent us photos of the gnuts that have grown. We will hopefully collect Yusuf at the end of next week.

Tuesday afternoon, Sarah, from ‘Sarah’s little school’ visited George’s Place. (We supported her school when I first came to Uganda and helped with building work, decorating and bunk beds for the children she looks after.) After being welcomed by the staff and boys she had a word of advice for our boys, on speaking quietly and not raising their voices! She also taught them a new song. Sarah does such amazing work in a slum area and supports so many poor children through education. She was wanting help with putting a hard surface down in the school compound as when it rains there is too much mud. Unfortunately, with all the school/vocational fees we are paying I don’t think it is possible for us to help at the present time.

Jesus said….’Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink, whoever believes in me….rivers of living water will flow from within them’. John 37-38

I also fitted in a visit to Nora (my lawyer) Tuesday morning. It was good to catch up with her.

Patrick has gone back to his family, he will keep in contact to let us know how he’s getting on. We also discovered that Najib was being supported by another NGO, he had ‘forgotten’ to mention this to us, so he has returned to their care. Asaph has also gone home for a couple of weeks holiday.

Friday afternoon Big Brian, who left us last September knocked on the gate and asked if he could come in. We let him bathe and fed him, and he is staying for a few days. He is looking for work but we need to consider how we can best help him.

Tim has been busy cooking cakes all week, one for a wedding, he really has a natural gift for baking and is working for one of our neighbours. Paul has also been busy making clothes, mending curtains and trousers, adding buttons, press-studs, zips. He is very content sitting behind his sewing machine and has taken over one of the garages as a workshop!

The staff managed to have a meeting with the younger boys on Wednesday, who had some issues with the older boys not cleaning up after themselves and making them move from chairs they are sitting in. It’s not always easy with so many boys of all ages, different personalities and a pecking order! Prayer please for wisdom as we sort out these little problems.

I’ve been and watched the boys playing football this week and also we took them swimming. Saturday we visited KK Beach as usual.

Saturday evening as Bob was bringing me home we noticed a young mother with a baby on her back, collapsed, there was nowhere immediately to stop the car, but when safe to do so he parked and ran back with some bananas and money to help her. She hadn’t eaten for a few days, he put her on a boda to take her to where she is staying and gave her some money for food. He also left her his phone no. There is so much poverty.

Tresor usually stays at my home on a Saturday night and this week shared with me the problems his family are facing in DRC, their homes have been burnt down. Tresor’s family escaped from Rwanda to DRC years ago and although his father returned home to Rwanda, Tresor’s uncles stayed, they are facing problems as they are still considered refugees and are now in hiding. Prayers, please.

Today, Sunday, I’m off to a church service at Bukoto, for a Mothers’ Union 50th Anniversary Service and Celebration. I’ve had a dress made in special MU material. I also had to be interviewed for an article to be written in their Celebration Magazine!

With love and prayers.
