From a very warm Entebbe. I was planning to leave Uganda on Wednesday evening but my flight was cancelled and Lynn and I have been staying at a hotel near the airport. We have now been put on different flights for later today and hopefully I’ll be back in the U.K. by tomorrow morning. It’s been a tiring couple of days. We did visit the Botanical Gardens yesterday, enjoying a boda ride back!
All is well at Homes of Promise.
On Monday we did home tracing for Charles, Jessie driving. Tresor brought Charles to Kajjansi and we then met Peace at her home and travelled to Nakaseke District, (a long distance off of the main road to Luweero, Jessie had been at school nearby and knew the area which helped. Charles directed us to where the father lived, which looked deserted. A funeral was taking place in the village that everyone from miles around seemed to be attending. The father was there and someone went to ask him to come and meet us. It was a tearful reunion on the father’s part and he was pleased to see Charles who had been missing for three years. His mother had drowned. There was no furniture in the home not even a bed. We stayed a couple of hours, talking and filling in our forms, finding the LC1 and having our papers stamped. People in the area kept telling us Charles was a ‘stubborn boy!’ Which is often said here. He suffers from travel sickness and vomited numerous times on the way there and back! Charles actually seems much more settled since we came back, he knows he is in our care and even managed a smile on Wednesday.

Tuesday, Lynn and I went to the women’s fellowship group in the morning and then to the office.
On Wednesday morning, Lynn and I collected Petra at the office and Peace met us at George’s Place. The three new boys had been for a school interview that morning and will be starting at Little Angels next Monday. We had opportunities of talking with all the boys in the home individually and as a group – I think it was a helpful time.
The boys are all returning to boarding school, vocational college or primary next week. Omoding is still with us as he is continuing to receive treatment. Ian went and visited the boys Saturday and in the afternoon they went for swimming and enjoying a time at Sky Beach.
Bethel has stayed with his family this week and will be joining his brothers at their boarding school next week. This seems to be the right move, we will of course be checking on him and providing his school fees, requirements, uniform etc. He and the family are happy with this.
Tresor has been busy ordering and buying all the school requirements for next term – I’m having difficulty authorising school payments as the hotel has an unsecured network – hopefully I’ll be able to by Monday.
I eventually arrived back on Saturday morning, via Addis Ababa. It was a fairly uneventful flight and I’ve had a relaxing day today as I was very tired. Lynn came via Amsterdam.
Thank you for all your love and support. I’ll be missing the boys over the next few weeks but I look forward to seeing some of you and sharing about our work in Uganda
