Taking Dan to his family, Bethel also spends time with his family, Lynn and I visit Murchison Falls

Sunday 17th May 2026

Dear friends,

Most of the older boys who had attended the celebrations last Saturday started on their journey’s back that evening. Those travelling further Dennis to Gulu, Patrick to Rukungiri, Brian to Zombo, Ivan to Sironko went on the overnight buses. Robert, Augustine, Asaph, Anton and others started making their way home. Omoding said he felt unwell and stayed at George’s Place with the younger boys, attending the clinic on Monday, who referred him to the hospital. He has something wrong with his liver and is on treatment and still around.

On Monday, Lynn, Dan and I, Jessie driving travelled to Kayunga to deliver Dan home for a couple of week’s holiday. We collected Augustine at Kalagi as he wanted to come with us. It was good to see the family, Esther’s baby is being looked after by her boyfriend’s mother. Jane has grown and is now toddling around. All the family were well and working in the garden when we arrived.

Whilst we were away Tresor took Bethel to see his family for a few days – he was very happy as he hasn’t seen them since Christmas, we are considering placing him in the boarding school his brothers attend. Prayers please. He could then come back to us during holiday times or be with his family. Young Brian (not so young now) is also visiting his mum for a week.

Tuesday was Swearing-In Day for the President and a Bank Holiday. Lynn and I didn’t go very far, just for a walk as there were lots of military about. We also prepared for Wednesday as we were travelling to Murchison Falls the next morning for a couple of nights, we enjoyed a game drive and visit to the falls. We had to be up early on Thursday and leave the Safari Lodge at 6am for sunrise – we were blessed as we saw six young lions (all about two years old). We had a ranger with us, Silva who gave us so much information. We could see the cubs mothers were not far away but had left them trying to get to a warthog that had half buried himself in a water hole in a deep crevice at the side of the road! We didn’t stay to see if they got him! We saw elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, Ugandan cobs, warthogs, vultures, fish eagles, and so much more! It was an amazing drive, later in the afternoon we visited the falls. I really appreciated a few quiet days as it has been very busy. We returned to Kampala on Friday but were held up in one of those special traffic jams here in Matugga!

Saturday afternoon, I went to see the boys at George’s Place and played cards with them. As I left, the car made a strange noise, so on my way home, I called in a garage and spent the next two hours waiting as they fixed something on the back wheel that was connected to the hand brake! All seems to be well but the car does need a service.

I’ve heard from several of the older boys who enjoyed their visit and the celebrations.

Thank you for all your love and support. The new boys the authorities asked us to take in haven’t arrived yet!
