Jade teaches the boys to make chocolate crispies, Johnson and Joseph make a start on their life story books, Dr. Alison and Jilanne visit.
Sunday 8th September 2024
Dear friends,
Last Monday morning Jade took an Uber to Garuga to spend time with the boys, playing card games and teaching them how to make chocolate crispies, which they obviously enjoyed enormously and tasted very good. I was in the office all morning and later in the afternoon drove to George’s Place with Peace, to talk with Omoding returning to Tororo and Shaffick going back to Bugiri, later in the week, also to collect Jade. Victor went to see his mother for a couple of days and came back Thursday.
On Tuesday Jade visited Christine’s workshop at Refuge and Hope and spent time with the ladies (refugees) who she works with, Jade also introduced herself to all the other NGO’s who work there. I worked in the office on Tuesday and had a day off on Wednesday as I was still getting over the camp!
On Thursday Trésor brought Johnson and Joseph (Yusuf) to my apartment early in the morning to make a start on their life story books. We had run off photos of them from when they first arrived at George’s Place, tracing their relatives, learning to swim, first day at school etc. They made a start but spent time checking my iPad and phone to see if there were other photos that they wanted! We ordered local food for lunch which they enjoyed, they then visited Maranatha School to check on some of their teachers and met up with Joshua who has been at school studying for the last two weeks.
“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” John 10:27
Friday we had a visit from Dr. Alison (British) and Jilanne (American). Dr. Alison talked with the boys about mental health and how to keep your minds healthy, which I know the older boys appreciated. Jilanne played ‘Simon Says’, and a listening game where your partner was blindfolded and you had to give instructions to find a tennis ball, she then led our devotions, talking and leading us in prayer – listening to God. It was a really good morning and everyone participated apart from Saidi whose mother had travelled overnight from Lira and arrived at 7am. He spent time with her on Friday. We arranged for her to spend the night in a nearby room and she met up with him again on Saturday before the boys went off for football training.
Kasita and Johnson have been doing their school assignments, Kasita’s school report was amazing and you will see his class teacher wrote ‘he is an active, brilliant, interesting student’. We are so proud of all our boys who mostly are doing well and every school report said they were ‘well behaved’! Saviour has been helping with the cooking and is making banana cake today. Griffin has been sending me messages and photos of what he has been making at the hotel and is coming back to the home next Tuesday as the boys return to school/college by the 16th. As nearly all the boys were home this week, I gave out knitted hats, that had been made by ladies from Christ Church St. Albans – many thanks.
Jade has gone off to Rwanda for a week, prayers please for her as she went on the night bus, she is a seasoned traveller but as you know Africa has its challenges.
Thank you for all your kindness and support of our work, I am planning to be back in the U.K. on 25th September for a few weeks and hope to get a chance to meet up with some of you then.
God bless.
