Visiting Kayunga, Tresor visits Dennis and Brian at school, Petra’s nephew has RHD (an enlarged heart condition).
Sunday 30th June 2024
Dear friends,
I’ve been busy working on a grant application this week. Peace, Petra and I held hands and prayed before I pressed send on the laptop! I met Ian for breakfast Tuesday morning for a catch up, as he is now back from the U.K.
Petra has a nephew, Charles, staying with her who has a heart condition, RHD and needs an operation, Peace and her took him to Malago Hospital last week. The prognosis is not good but the operation fee is about £6,000. Sadly as an organisation we cannot help – your prayers please for Petra and her family.
On Thursday I travelled to Kayunga with Benard and Jessie to pay school fees for Dan’s brother George and sister Shila and take school requirements. We visited the school who entertained us with a song and of course Benard and I talked to the children, encouraging them to work hard and appreciating their singing and the ‘choir’. George was not at school and we were told he was sick – that wasn’t the problem – his school shoes needed mended and the dad didn’t have the money to do that. We later took Shila and visited the family.
“The Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love. The Lord is good to all; he has compassion on all he has made.”
Psalms 145: 8/9
Thankfully Dan had sorted out some of his old clothes for his siblings and there was a pair of school shoes he had grown out of, a bit big for George but fine with socks that were also there. The dad had pawned his small phone, the previous day, for 5,000UGX (£1) to buy food to feed the family. They have grown maize which they seem to be eating every meal. Baby Janie is lovely but was rather ‘worried’ about me! – probably the first ‘muzungu’ she has seen. Sadly Esther their eldest daughter is now pregnant, the boyfriend has disappeared – this happens regularly here in the villages. I am not sure how they all manage to squeeze into the house at night and don’t think we can send Dan there even for a holiday at present. The dad borrowed chairs from neighbours so we sat and chatted for about half an hour and then went to buy them food – posho, beans, salt, sugar, soap, bread and eggs. We were asked for some sort of insecticide for the garden so of course bought that too. The children all look healthy! They are such a happy family, the mother met us at the shops with a sack of maize she had harvested for George’s Place which we appreciated. We prayed for them before we left.
Christine came back from the Washington late Thursday and we had a walk on Friday evening, it was good to see her and to get some exercise!
Tresor is visiting Dennis and young Brian today at school for Visiting Day – I had been considering going but we have a new church Ladies Fellowship meeting this morning at Trudy’s which I would like to attend. Ian is meeting me later and we are driving up to see the boys this afternoon and take them swimming. Johnson has been back home this week as he has a bacterial infection – I don’t think there is much wrong with him – I know he sometimes feels the need to come home, he is going back to school this afternoon.
Patrick (security) and Sam went on Wednesday for a course on growing mushrooms and hopefully this month we will have a small shed built and start our new enterprise. Sadly Peanut wasn’t well yesterday, Saturday but I will check how he is today and call the vet if necessary.
All is fine, thank you for all your love, prayers and support.
Love Jane x
