Meeting new Joseph’s grandfather, visiting Joshua, icing biscuits, Esther finishes internship
Sunday 7th July 2024
Dear friends,
All is well at Homes of Promise. Reginah, Christine’s driver, drove for us on Wednesday as Jessie is working away. She was very good. We only travelled around Kampala as we had an appointment with new Joseph’s (Ryan) Grandfather. The home is off the old Entebbe Road, but the roads are marrum and it was near a swamp area, thankfully it’s been dry for the last few weeks. An interesting meeting – initially the grandfather was very helpful and smiling a lot but when we explained that we needed information for the Ugandan Government on the family and a photo of his National ID, he wasn’t willing to help. He is a ‘local’ doctor, and the clinic where he stayed was not good! He advised that he would find his daughter, Joseph’s mother, within two weeks, as she needed to be the one to give the information. We couldn’t even get his name and he wouldn’t have his photo taken!
Later in the day I called at Maranatha School as Joshua needed some things and also the school wanted him to have some folders for each of the subjects he is studying for. He seems to be growing taller weekly.

Monday afternoon I drove to Kisenyi to collect the first box that I sent from the U.K., there has been a hold up at the Suez Canal. We were pleased as over 60 T-shirts, some large trainers and a few pairs of trousers were there.
There have been a few ‘instances’ with the younger boys this week and we have cancelled football and swimming for the next two weeks. Peace and I are going to talk with them next Tuesday afternoon. Benard is taking his weekend off and we want him to be there. Sam will be working this weekend. I went today, Saturday, to have a chat with the boys about appreciating all that they have and we spent time icing biscuits to share with the staff and take to the teachers at school. Peanut is much better – the vet called three days in a row and gave him injections.
One of Gorette’s daughters, Esther, has finished her three week internship at a school, she has been taking a two year nursery teachers course which finishes later this year. Homes of Promise have been helping with her college fees. The Report from the school was good and I’ll attach a copy.
Plans are underway for a camp in August with 30 of the boys – we are looking at returning to Lake Muboro but probably not visiting the National Park. We will still see zebras, cobs and other animals.
Ronald, Patrick, Asaph and Tim have all been in touch. Tim was needed at the hospital for his drugs and hopefully he’ll get there next week. I also met Chantelle when she treated me to afternoon tea, it was good to catch up with her – she is still working for the UN with refugees and involved in security work with her church. I’ve been to the dentist as I had a terrible toothache – fine when I’m taking painkillers, hopefully it will be sorted soon!
Thank you for all your love and support.
God bless.
