Rain! Young Brian back from school, more mushroom gardens bought, Bethel’s mum visits
Sunday 24th November 2024
Dear friends,
We’ve had lots of rain this week but of course the sun then comes out and it’s hotter than ever. The plants on the balcony outside the door to my apartment are enjoying the weather!
I met up with Ian on Tuesday for breakfast and then Tresor joined us and he and I went to Kingdom Kampala to see if my letter from the NGO board was ready so that I can reapply for a work permit- sadly it wasn’t, the application was delivered in September!! Tresor and I then went to buy a chest freezer for George’s Place, there is a new shop ‘China Town’ which seems to sell everything at very reasonable prices. Tresor went back to GP with the delivery people and I came home. We’ll be able to freeze bread for the week, milk, cooked food, meat, vegetables etc.
Thursday I went to GP and supervised the curtains being put up. Griffin and Joseph went to their home towns to collect their National IDs on Friday as they need these when looking for work. Whilst I was there I was pleased to see jackfruit and oranges growing on the trees in our compound. Sometimes the boys pick them before they are ripe!
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13
Joseph (Yusuf) and Joshua went with Tresor to collect young Brian from school on Friday. Tresor also took the items needed by Victor and Saviour for their exams this coming week to Connect Africa. I spoke to Augustine on Monday and he was going back to Hope International preparing for his DIT exam on 6th December.
Bethel had a visit from his mum one afternoon – she is making plans to return to Congo – we are concerned as he is very settled with us (he has been with us 2 years) and doing well in school – please do be praying that the right decisions are made by the UN and Uganda authorities.
We have purchased more mushroom gardens and are still harvesting from the old ones, the boys are enjoying them in their food as we look for marketing opportunities.
Saturday the young boys had a basketball game which we won, with boys from one of Watoto Children’s Villages, football matches had also been arranged at the Academy. I called to see Halima as she and her sister are cooking for the Christmas Party on 7th December and also on Christmas Day.
Everything is going well and most of the boys will be back at George’s Place by next weekend, we are looking forward to a busy/noisy few weeks ahead.
Thank you for all your love and support.
Love Jane x
