Easter Monday outing, a camp at the sailing club for boys who have left our care, Griffin hopefully going to The Speke Hotel
Sunday 27th April 2025
Dear friends,
Easter Monday we took the younger boys to the Scout campsite in Kazzi near lake Victoria and the sailing club. We had a guided hike, treasure hunt, picnic and the boys enjoyed being blindfolded, barefooted on a challenge walk through the forest. They had to find their way by a rope and crawled underground through mud and along mud trenches, had buckets of water thrown over them by the scouts! They then walked to the lake to wash themselves and their clothes before a swim in the large swimming pool, Bethel refused to be involved saying he didn’t want to die today! Denis also wouldn’t join in the challenge. Everyone had a great day.
Tuesday was a day at the office preparing for the camp, Trésor sent transport money to 8 of the older boys who have left our care and they arrived safely. New Brian and Patrick came the weekend before and Griffin joined us as he is still in the home.
We arrived at the sailing club at about 11am Wednesday in torrential rain – all blessings! Halima our cook had prepared two meals beforehand of beans and a beef stew so lunch was prepared apart from the posho. They settled in, the boys put up the tents and explored the grounds. The boys were involved in cooking and washing plates and cleaning etc. I didn’t stay over night but Ian, Trésor and Benard did. Most of the night it rained with thunder and lightning. Peace and I had sleepless nights imaging the tents blown into the trees and the boys soaked. They all slept through the storm!
“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.”
1 John 1:7
On Thursday, Colin a youth worker, took the boys to the scout camp next door, for some of the activities the younger boys had enjoyed on Monday and then talked with them about any challenges/problems they are facing. I collected Peace and we arrived about 12pm, after lunch we walked them to the swimming pool and they enjoyed time there before a ‘business’ lady (Ruth) came to talk with them about money matters, saving – a very lively talk! They had camp fires each evening and chatted. A dry night – no rain but lots of lake flies in the morning.
On Friday I arrived about 9.30am and Peace arrived not long after with Dr Alison and Gill Ann who talked with the boys about decision making, another really helpful discussion with games and a spiritual message. We left the sailing club about 3pm. Some of the boys left George’s Place that evening, others left Saturday morning and the rest will leave on Monday. It is Benard’s weekend off so Steven is around this weekend. I went to Garuga in the afternoon, the boys all went to football in the morning. Tresor took Patrick to another dental surgeon to get a quote for fixing his teeth – he lost most of his front teeth when he was on the streets. It looks like being expensive!
The young boys are all fine, they will be breaking up from school at the end of this coming week. I did call to see Joshua one morning but he was taking an exam so I went back in the evening – he said he felt unwell so I left him with some paracetamol and Tresor checked on him the following day and he was feeling better.
It looks like Griffin will be starting on an internship at the Speke Hotel in Munyonyo shortly, he has had to submit more information and went for a medical check with the local authorities. This is such a wonderful opportunity for him as the Hotel is one of the best in Uganda.
It was good to catch up with the boys who have left our care, some are really doing well, whilst others struggle. Your prayers please for all these older boys: Joseph, Augustine, Shaffick, Ivan, Robert, Brian, Ronald, Patrick, Omoding, Derek and Griffin.
Thank you for all your love and support. You are really making a difference to these boys lives.
Love Jane x
